Gothenburg in 3 Days, Is It as Good as Alicante?

Published: 18.06.2026

Sometimes you don't need to travel far to get away. This time, we went to Gothenburg, with a special question: Can this Swedish city provide some of the same feeling as Alicante? Not because the cities are alike, but because certain places set a standard that's hard to forget.

Gothenburg in 3 Days, Is It as Good as Alicante?

A Short Trip That Felt Promising

There’s something liberating about trips that don’t require too much planning. When you can just hop in the car, take the ferry over, and know you’re only a few hours away from a new city, it lowers the threshold. That was part of what made this trip interesting even before we arrived.

Gothenburg has long been a city many Norwegians visit, but it’s not always easy to know what to expect. Is it mostly practical, or is it also a city that offers something extra?

The Journey is Part of the Experience

Traveling by car and ferry gives a different start to the trip than flying often does. The pace is slower, and it almost feels like the journey itself is part of the experience. For a short trip like this, it fits very well.

It also makes the trip feel achievable. This isn’t a big project. It’s a little break. A getaway. And sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

First Encounter with Gothenburg

First impressions matter. Some cities take time to grow on you. Others feel right immediately. Gothenburg struck us as a calm and pleasant city to be in. The trams, streets, and cityscape gave the place personality, without feeling stressful or overwhelming.

Perhaps that’s exactly what makes the city suitable for a short trip. You don’t need much time to get into the rhythm.

Why We Thought of Alicante

The comparison with Alicante isn’t about the places being alike in climate, architecture, or culture. It’s more about the feeling you’re left with. Alicante has the quality of providing a lightness in the body. A kind of simple holiday feeling.

Our question was whether Gothenburg, in its own way, could offer some of the same. Not sun and beach, but an experience of being a bit freer, a bit calmer, and a bit more present.

Small Things Often Matter

On such trips, it’s often not one big experience that determines everything. It’s the sum of the small things. How the city feels to walk in. Whether it’s easy to find the rhythm. Whether the food and breaks hit the spot. Whether you feel that the days are allowed to be a bit open.

It’s precisely these small things that often determine whether a trip is forgotten or whether you actually feel like coming back.

Was It Worth It?

If the goal is a simple trip with little hassle, Gothenburg is definitely interesting. It’s close enough that the journey is manageable, but far enough that it actually feels like a trip. And sometimes that’s really the whole point.

Whether it’s as good as Alicante, the film will answer completely. But it certainly managed to give us something to think about.
